A Life at Sea, a Leading Career in World Powerboating
Born in Naples in 1963, Alfredo Amato has lived the sea since childhood. His passion for boating turned into competitive racing in 1995, when he made his debut in the legendary Venice–Montecarlo race, immediately taking victory in the Supersport category.
In the following years, he competed in several Italian Class 3 Championships, standing out for skill and determination. After a break dedicated to family and professional growth, in 2007 he founded the Al&Al Racing Team together with his friend Alfredo Nuzzo, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his sporting career.
With Nuzzo, he raced three seasons in the P1 World Championship aboard an Outerlimits monohull, earning his first international podiums and the title of 2009 Vice World Champions. Between 2011 and 2012, he competed in Class 3 alongside multi‑title champion Matteo Nicolini—his only seasons as a driver rather than throttleman.
From 2012 to 2014, Amato raced in Class 1 with the “Luca Fendi” team, winning the 2013 European Championship and finishing the same year in third place in the Supersport World Championship.
The turning point came at the end of 2013, when Amato entered the X‑Cat World Championship, the premier category in powerboating, with a new-generation catamaran powered by 450 hp Mercury Racing engines. Over the years, he competed in 11 World Championships, collecting major results including a PP World Championship podium and victory at the 2015 Dubai GP.
In 2016, he began racing with driver Roberto Lo Piano, securing third place in the 3D World Championship.
In the 2025 season, Amato and the Al&Al Racing Team expanded to the United States, competing in the APBA/RWO World Championship in the Factory Stock category with a 500 hp Dough Wright catamaran. They finished fourth at the Key West World Championship, also earning a prestigious podium in the second race.
